The KPP 2015 Annual Gala

The Konbit Pou Potapiman (KPP) Annual Gala was held on Saturday December 5th 2015 ,  at the Grand Palms Golf Resort in Pembroke Pines, Florida. It has now become a tradition, that on the first Saturday of December, sons, daughters and friends of our beloved city of Port-a-Piment would meet to celebrate the accomplishments of our organization, and contribute funds toward a better tomorrow.

Mrs Carolle Paul, opened the evening by welcoming the guests and thanking them for their participation. She also introduced the Board of Directors of Konbit Pou Potapiman Inc, consisting of:

Frantz (Milou) Jean, President,

Carolle Paul Vice president/ Treasurer

Geto Dumesle, Secretary

Serge Bellegarde, Gerald Sidney, Claudel Moïse Counselors.

Dinner was the first order of the evening. An appetizing buffet of Salads, Soup, Fish, Beef, Chicken, Pork as well as Rice and Beans, Fried Plantains, Vegetables awaited our guests. Different desserts, Coffee and Tea were also offered.

At dinnertime, Mrs. Yvette Leblanc, a local artist known for her stage presence and her charming voice  entertained us with a medley of songs in English, Creole, French and Spanish. Thank you Yvette!

Mr. Serge Bellegarde was the guest of honor. Serge is a member of the KPP Board. Among his other numerous qualifications, Serge distinguishes himself as a member of the “AKademi Kreyol “of Haiti. Serge is well informed on the problems of learning in different languages, and he spoke to us on:  Education in Haiti, The Road to development: What Role for Haitian Kreyol?   Thank you Serge for this great insight! It was then the turn of Frantz (Milou) Jean , President of KPP,  to address the audience. Frantz thanked the numerous guests for their presence. He gave an overview of the accomplishments of KPP for the year 2015 in the domains of Health, Education, Business and Support of local organizations. Frantz also presented some of the goals for the year coming.  Foremost is the goal of building the first Children’s Library of Port-a-Piment. Frantz thanked the numerous individuals who helped KPP to acquire a lot at the center of town for this purpose. Frantz advised that KPP will be conducting vigorous fund raising efforts to build the library.

Some of the individuals who contributed in a special manner to the accomplishments of the last year were also recognized. (Frantz’s speech).

It was then the turn of Dr Henriot St Gerard, President of the Class of 72 Association Inc, to update the guests on the ongoing efforts to provide the hospital with the equipment needed for the Operating Room under construction. Donations and pledges were requested by Dr St Gerard and the audience responded appropriately.

The friends and family of Port a Piment enjoyed the rest of the evening, reconnecting with relatives and long lost acquaintances, and forging new alliances.

Music was provided by DJ Klasik who made us dance well past the hour of midnight.

KPP takes this opportunity to again thank the Board of directors, the members, and all the friends who helped make this evening a success.
