On Sunday, June 24th, 2012, and as part of its summer events,  Konbit Pou Potapiman Inc. (KPP), was proud to participate in the Award Ceremony that recognized and rewarded the best students of the graduating upper classes of the town of Port-a-Piment.

This year, and at the suggestion of an anonymous donor, who provided the funds for the awards, the Prix d Excellence Eric Belfort was established, to honor the life and accomplishments of the late Eric Belfort, a longtime resident of the town.  These funds were matched by the Bank of America of the USA, as part of their Matching Gift Program.

The late Mr. Eric Belfort was a local businessman, and the patriarch of his family. He believed strongly in the power of Education and he provided the means for many of the young ones in the family to attend school. Among others, his niece, Mrs. Marie Denise Belfort Henri was a recipient of his kindness, from primary education, up to attending the University of Sorbonne, in Paris, France. Mr. Eric Belfort believed in providing opportunities for Excellence and the awards have been established to create a pathway for others to achieve their academic goals.

His wife, Mrs Louise Belfort,  remains an honorable resident of the town of Port-a-Piment.

During the Sunday Mass, at the Catholic Church of Notre Dame du Rosaire, four students were presented with their awards. Mrs. Roselene Gentil, Inspector of the Schools, and member of the Konbit Pou Potapiman, addressed the audience to advise them of the goals of this new program, mainly to help promising students achieve their academic goals and become better citizens of Port-a-Piment.
