A KPP Initiative to promote responsible Citizenship

For a second consecutive year, the KPP Initiative on Citizenship is making an impact at the EFA School in Port-à-Piment. Under the dedicated leadership of Principal Mac Simon Louis, students in 5th and 6th-grades are  participating in a program designed to instill values of responsibility, discipline, and teamwork.

In the KPP Initiative Program, students are immersed in various aspects of Citizenship, with a strong emphasis on practical application. The students engage in Agriculture, while working in groups and sharing responsibilities. They also learn about their environment, the importance of sustainable practices and the value of hard work.

One goal of the program is to foster a sense of collective responsibility for the immediate surroundings. The students are actively involved in keeping the schoolyard clean and free of debris, ensuring their classrooms are neat, and meticulously aligning their desks – all tasks undertaken with a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation. These seemingly small actions build a foundation for greater civic engagement and a sense of ownership over their shared spaces.

The curriculum is designed to empower students to create projects that benefit them individually, as a group, and their wider community. This focus on tangible outcomes encourages problem-solving skills and reinforces the idea that their actions can have a positive impact.

As the school year draws to a close next month, the students are preparing for a significant milestone: a comprehensive presentation to their teachers and parents. This event will serve as a showcase of the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout the year, demonstrating their growth in areas like environmental awareness, agricultural practices, and the core tenets of responsible citizenship.

KPP extends its heartfelt gratitude to the directors of EFA School for their unwavering commitment to the program. The success of the KPP Initiative at EFA School is a testament to the power of investing in young people, fostering a generation of responsible, disciplined, and community-minded citizens who are poised to make a positive difference in Port-à-Piment and beyond.

Books change lives- Support the KPP Children Library fundraiser

The KPP Children Library has become a gateway to knowledge for the children of Port-a-Piment. Every weekend, young readers aged 6 to 14 step into the library to build on their love of reading. On weekdays, students from the EFA school also make use of the library to enhance their general knowledge. However, the KPP Library urgently needs more books in Creole and French to continue inspiring and motivating these children.

For most children in Port-a-Piment, access to books other than school manuals, is extremely limited. Schools often lack the resources, and parents simply do not have the means to buy leisure books for their kids. The KPP Children Library provides a solution, but the present collection needs to grow and diversify. By expanding the selection of books, we can help children strengthen their literacy skills in their national languages while making reading more accessible and enjoyable.

Our initiative now requires a different approach, due to the current political environment in Haiti. In the past, books could be sent from abroad to feed our collection drive. As books can be bought in Haiti, a cash donation is becoming the most effective way to support the library.  The funds would allow KPP to buy books locally, ensuring that the library gets the materials needed, while also promoting the Haitian authors, booksellers, and publishers.

KPP is launching this book donation drive to offer more diversified stories to the children. Every donation whether small or big will impact positively the education and future of the next generation. With your help, we can fill the shelves of the KPP Children Library and increase the number of young readers in Port-a-Piment – Your support will not only provide essential reading materials but will also foster a sense of community and collaboration. Donations may be sent to Konbit Pou Potapiman Inc via Zelle @ 516-2706144            or

The KPP Animal Breeding Program (update)

On February 9th, the KPP monitoring team for the Animal Breeding Program visited the village of Chariole( Kayiba)  in the commune of Port-a-Piment to inspect the cows in the program. This visit also provided an opportunity to meet with the keepers and assess their needs.

The program started in 2022 with nine (9) cows, but despite a few minor setbacks, the herd has grown to thirteen (13). One (1) cow is pregnant, while five (5) cows have already given birth. Five (5) of the cows are generating enough milk to support the keepers’ families and relatives. Any extra milk will likely be sold by the keepers. All cows are in good health.

The monitoring team consists of Exces Paul the lead monitor; Anel Salvador, the veterinary technician; and Feres Hyppolite, the monitor assistant. During the visit, the veterinarian provided essential guidance to the keepers and ensured the cows received proper care. The monitoring team will stay closely connected with the keepers, oversee the cows progress and identify future beneficiaries.
