Inauguration of the Community School of Jabouin

What a day!         Friday, September 21, 2018

This marks a very important date for the residents of Jabouin: the inauguration of their very own Community School!  Children smiling, laughing, and learning in a safe environment! What a beautiful sight! Members of the community as well as of KPP, Parents, Teachers coming together to celebrate this important achievement!

The school was built by BuildOn, an international NGO, in cooperation with the local community and with the support of Konbit Pou Potapiman.

The celebration was festive, and included 112 children who will now use a new facility which is safer and more suitable.

We are very proud of the school because we believe that Education is the first step out of poverty.

Our heartfelt thanks go to: the BuildOn organization

our generous Donators and

the people of Jabouin who worked on this project.

It’s official.

“Sometimes the smallest step in the right direction ends up being the biggest step of your life. Tip Toe if you must, but take the step.”

This quote brings back memories how this whole project started. With limited funds from pledges made by our loyal supporters, we took a leap of faith and started the project. We took the small step and tip toed by setting a date to break ground. We knocked on many doors and BuildOn answered our call.  This is a dream come true with immeasurable possibilities. We know It takes more than a building to develop a great mind, but what a start! And with the right environment, who knows? doctors, senators, teachers, engineers, scientists, builders, president, merchants…

What a dream! Or should I say, what a vision! Great things happen with dreamers with a vision. Also, with people willing to take the step. Our efforts must continue. We need to make sure the school has our support to help create the right environment to produce great citizens. And with great citizens the community, our country, and the world stand a chance for a better future.

We need your help. Other communities need our help. Help us take the next small step by contributing to:

Jabouin’s Water Project – A Dream Come True!

We did it again! The water project of Jabouin is a reality: .Clean and fresh water is now available.

As we all know, the need for sustainable source of water for a community is crucial. Without clean and fresh water, the community will be exposed to waterborne illnesses, such as typhoid, cholera, and chronic diarrhea which are the causes of many deaths. This is why it was important for the community of Jabouin to have access to this much needed resource.

In Jabouin, the water issue became more urgent with the construction of the community School slated to open in September 2018. So, while the school project was under way, we contacted several companies with the expertise to handle the water project. Due to the remote location of Jabouin with no accessible roads to accommodate heavy equipment, we had difficulty finding a firm to handle the project. Finally, we found a local company with experience in digging wells and willing to go to a remote area where the work had to be done manually.

Success is in the air. The well is functioning and was inaugurated on Monday, August 27, 2018. The well is not only a source of water for Jabouin but also for the surrounding communities. As the pictures below depict, the people getting the water are happy and grateful.

On behalf of the KPP Board of Directors, we would like to extend our sincere thanks to Guy S Antoine and his Facebook friends for their contributions to this noble cause. Special thanks go to Mr. Jean Robert Isidor of KPP-Haiti for his leadership and support to get the job done. Our thanks go as well to the Ing. Philippe Eliscar, Director of OREPA Sud-DINEPA, for the special feasibility study done on the site. The Community of Jabouin (Port-a-Piment) and its surroundings appreciate the love and contribution of all who donated to provide them at last, with fresh and clean water.

Let us conclude with a translated note from a member of the community:(see video)
“…KPP, thank you for making it possible for people in our community and surrounding communities to come and share this great gift with us…We wish KPP members long life.”

Delivery of Donated Supplies

Last February 2018, Konbit Pou Potapiman Inc received an impressive donation of school supplies to benefit the students of Port-a-Piment. The benefactors were: the Links, Incorporated Fort Lauderdale Chapter (FL), in partnership with the United Nations Association of the USA (Broward County Chapter) and the New Mount Olive Baptist Church of Fort Lauderdale.

Frantz Jean, President of KPP, Inc and Nicole Jean, member, met at the Mount Olive Baptist Church with representatives of the donators to take possession of the items and ensure their delivery to the targeted population.

Last July, members of Konbit Pou Potapiman Inc, as well as members of the local KPP Board, met with Mr Mondin Sincyr, Director of the Jabouin community School to deliver to him school supplies which included over 100 backpacks, 350 pencils, more than 200 erasers, 130 pencil sharpeners, loose leaf packages, color pencils, paper clips and glue sticks. You may recall that KPP supporters, in partnership with the organization BuildOn, and the community of Jabouin are now rebuilding the local community school which had been destroyed by Hurricane Matthew. We expect the building to be ready by the opening day of school. KPP local members will assist in the delivery of the supplies to the students at that time.

On the same day, KPP members also visited the Lycée of Port-a-Piment, located in Figuiers, and met with M. Alguinaire Seide, Director of the Lycée.. The Lycée ensures secondary education to the older students of the commune. After a tour of the locale, an array of schools supplies, which included over 100 Composition Books, 140 Calculators, 100 Rulers, about 160 pens as well as paper clips, were delivered to Mr Seide for distribution at the beginning of the school year in September. We note that this marked the first opportunity for KPP to help with the older population of students and we thank the donators for this.

At the closing ceremony of the 2018 KPP Summer Camp, many of our graduates received a school bag.from the supply of donated goods. They were also the beneficiaries of this large donation.
