The 2018 KPP Fundraising Event.

Konbit Pou Potapiman celebrated its 8th Annual Fundraising Gala this past Saturday, December 1st , 2018 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel in Sunrise, Florida. As in previous years, KPP’s numerous friends and supporters came together for an evening of fun and learning; to reconnect with old friends, and to support the KPP humanitarian activities.

Carolle Paul, Vice President of KPP, opened the evening by welcoming the guests,  and by introducing the other Board members. Those present were Geto Dumesle, Claudel Moise, Gerald Sidney, and Frantz J Jean, President. Carolle recognized and thanked the members of different organizations that also work to better life in Haiti.  She presented Mr. Levelt Vital, a son of Port-a-Piment and manager of the musical band Awoze Twoubadou , which would provide live entertainment for the evening.

Numerous KPP members were recognized for their extraordinary support during the year. They included Jean Marie Florestal, Yves Sidney, Shesly and Joseph Anselme, Vierthe Sidney and Nicole A Jean.

The President of KPP Frantz J Jean followed Carolle to the podium. Frantz also known as Milou, again welcomed the guests and thanked them for their support. A listing of the KPP accomplishments for the year 2018 had been sent with the gala invitation.  Frantz described some of the challenges that KPP plans to tackle in the coming year. Restoration of the KPP Children’s Library which had been destroyed by Hurricane Matthew will be a priority. Helping different communities get access to clean water is also on the list. Already, KPP met the challenge of building a community well in the village of Jabouin, and providing access to clean water to the residents. A short video featuring a resident of Jabouin thanking all who contributed to realize this project was shown to the audience.

It was then the turn of Yves Sidney, KPP member, to talk about the realization of the school construction in Jabouin. Yves captivated the audience with a vivid presentation of this remote area as well as pictures of the community school of Jabouin before and after the construction. The financial contribution of KPP and its supporters was acknowledged as well as the contribution of the BuildOn organization and that of the population of Jabouin.  Yves thanked all who had pitched in to support this project.

The rest of the evening was filled with a chicken dinner, music and dance. The band Awoze Twoubadou, electrified the audience by putting on a superb show to the delight of the attendees.

Konbit Pou Potapiman thanks the numerous guests who encourage us by their presence. KPP also thanks all who through their contributions continue to support our efforts to improve life in Port-a-Piment. Thank You! Merci! Mèsi anpil!

Port-a-Piment lost a Dear Son.

We were saddened to learn of the passing of the ex-mayor of Port-a-Piment, Mr. Fritz Gattereau (Phito) at his residence on October 31st, 2018.

A great friend and supporter of Konbit Pou Potapiman(KPP), Phito was a well-known public servant from his role as Teacher to that of Mayor of his beloved commune.

I count myself as privileged to have had the opportunity to work with him to get the local hospital built under his tenure as Mayor. From his strong sense of service, Phito had donated the land on which the hospital was built.

We are keeping the family in our hearts and extend to them our deepest sympathies at this sad time.

Mr. Fritz Gattereau’s funeral will take place in Port-a-Piment, Haiti on November 17th.
