KPP water project in the village of Anba Dolian

Good news for the residents of Anba Dolian in the commune of Port-a-Piment. The availability of fresh water will soon be a reality.  With the financial assistance of One World Group Oxted, a London based non-profit organization, KPP- Haiti, is executing   the “Konbit Pou Potapiman water access project for the population of Anba Dolian” , Port-a-Piment, Haiti..

The availability of fresh water is a very serious problem that affects the quality of life of the people of Haiti in general. Women and children must walk great distances in search of water. This project consists of capturing water from a preexisting basin that was built to provide water to several communities. It entails the laying of pipes to channel the water from the mountain down to an area easily accessible to the residents of Anba Dolian.

The project is entrusted to the engineering firm of Jean- Sibert Sidney for implementation. The expected results are:

  • Fresh water is available in Anba-Dolian.
  • Travel time to get to the water source is reduced.
  • Improved nutrition/hydration among  the beneficiaries.

On May 20th,, supplies (pipes, cement, shovels etc…} were purchased and transported to the village. Work has begun. It is to be noted that the residents of Anba Dolian are volunteering hours of work toward this project. We will keep you informed of our progress. On behalf of the residents of Anba Dolian and its surroundings, KPP thanks One World Group Oxted for its continuous support.

Update on the KPP Animal Breeding Project

The KPP Animal Breeding Project is moving on in the commune of Port-a-Piment. As you may recall, the goats and sheep distributed during the 2014-2016 were decimated by hurricane Matthew in October 2016. With the help of One World Group Oxted, a London based nonprofit organization, the project was revived late 2017, but this time in the locality of Nan Ma. As of today, 15 families in Nan Ma are beneficiary owners of Goats.

On Saturday March, 30th, 2019 using the same basic principles, 4 new beneficiaries were awarded 2 goats each in the village of Anba Dolian. Anba Dolian is at 11 kilometers from the center of the town of Port-a-Piment. It is expected that these new beneficiaries will in turn become the donors to families within Anba Dolian and other villages as the program extends its geographical coverage.

The KPP Animal Breeding Project is based on a “Receive and Give” concept. For every animal received, the beneficiary will “give forward” one offspring of the same age, which must be in good condition. The animal will be given to the qualified next in line recipient. The selection of beneficiaries prioritizes the most deprived families. Ultimately, those families will have the chance to improve their living conditions due to the economic benefits of animal breeding.

Update on the KPP Children Library in Port-a-Piment!

As you all know, the devastation of Hurricane Matthew did not spare the KPP Children Library in Port-a-Piment. The library was situated on the grounds of the school of EFACAP. This was a pleasant setting where the kids used to enjoy learning, have fun and also broaden their horizons. Matthew had severely damaged the building which had forced us to move the library into a temporary setting, a classroom in the school.
We were grateful that we had found the classroom to continue to operate, but we knew that it was only a temporary solution. This is why at the gala in December 2018, and on Facebook, we had shared our vision with everyone: Renovate the damaged building so the library can return to its original location. As of today, the work is about to be completed. The work is almost finished. And the kids are going to be in a comfortable location once again.

Although the building is ready, more needs to be done. We need tables, chairs, cabinets and more tablets to complete the project. Any financial assistance toward this project will be greatly appreciated.

On behalf of KPP and the kids of Port-a-Piment, we want to thank all the folks who contributed generously to make this project a reality. Together, and with your support, we are making a difference.
