A Memorable Day at the EFACAP of Port-à-Piment

On June 19th, 2025, the students of EFA in Port-à-Piment concluded the year by showcasing what the 5th and 6th grade students learned in the program to Promote Responsible Citizenship. The first part of the day started with those who participated in the KPP – sponsored EFA school garden. They were thrilled to harvest vegetables they had planted three months ago. The joy of gathering their own spinach was a proud and fulfilling moment for all involved.

The day ended with a special celebration dedicated to honoring their teachers and parents. The event featured a variety of activities, including songs, short theatrical performances, and speeches from school directors. Some of the students proudly showcased their accomplishments in sewing and crochet. They also performed a short play focused on conflict resolution.

At the conclusion of the program, both the school director, Prof. Mac Simon Louis, and a 6th-grade student expressed heartfelt thanks to KPP for its ongoing support, encouragement, and especially for introducing the civics course, which has had a meaningful impact on the students

A KPP Initiative to promote responsible Citizenship

For a second consecutive year, the KPP Initiative on Citizenship is making an impact at the EFA School in Port-à-Piment. Under the dedicated leadership of Principal Mac Simon Louis, students in 5th and 6th-grades are  participating in a program designed to instill values of responsibility, discipline, and teamwork.

In the KPP Initiative Program, students are immersed in various aspects of Citizenship, with a strong emphasis on practical application. The students engage in Agriculture, while working in groups and sharing responsibilities. They also learn about their environment, the importance of sustainable practices and the value of hard work.

One goal of the program is to foster a sense of collective responsibility for the immediate surroundings. The students are actively involved in keeping the schoolyard clean and free of debris, ensuring their classrooms are neat, and meticulously aligning their desks – all tasks undertaken with a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation. These seemingly small actions build a foundation for greater civic engagement and a sense of ownership over their shared spaces.

The curriculum is designed to empower students to create projects that benefit them individually, as a group, and their wider community. This focus on tangible outcomes encourages problem-solving skills and reinforces the idea that their actions can have a positive impact.

As the school year draws to a close next month, the students are preparing for a significant milestone: a comprehensive presentation to their teachers and parents. This event will serve as a showcase of the knowledge and skills they have acquired throughout the year, demonstrating their growth in areas like environmental awareness, agricultural practices, and the core tenets of responsible citizenship.

KPP extends its heartfelt gratitude to the directors of EFA School for their unwavering commitment to the program. The success of the KPP Initiative at EFA School is a testament to the power of investing in young people, fostering a generation of responsible, disciplined, and community-minded citizens who are poised to make a positive difference in Port-à-Piment and beyond.
