Yesterday afternoon, Sunday May 30 2010, the Haitian self-help organization, AKASAN, announced on its website that, in a matter of days, it will post online the application form for its first round of “Premye Bourad” (jumpstart) grants and loans.
AKASAN is stimulating and supporting Haitian-capacity building initiatives which are truly Haitian-led and are free of foreign godfather(s). These projects are to be led and managed by members of the community where the impact of the projects will be felt. The skills, knowledge, material wealth acquired are to remain in Haiti with Haitians – before, during and after the conclusion of such project. An important characteristic of the AKASAN model is that the Premye Bourad grant or loan is to help the funded initiative secure the means to establish a basic infrastructure allowing the project leaders to independently develop and manage their resources in a transparent manner, via “4 je kontre” reporting, using for instance, photo and video reports in KREYOL.
The application form will be available for download in both official languages of Haiti from http://www.akasan.org/
AKASAN is Ayisyen ki Ap Soutini Ayisyen Nètalkole (Haitians helping Haitians all the way)
